JAUREGUI OUTMANEUVERS SUICO

September 23, 2005

LOS ANGELES-IBF#7 ranked ex-IBF 130-pound champ Javier Jauregui (50-12-2, 34 KOs), 131.75, Mexico, kept circling and counterpunching to outmaneuver WBC#3 ranked OPBF ruler Randy Suico (23-2, 20 KOs), 131.25, Philippines, en route to a majority decision (99-91 twice and 95-95) over ten heats at the USC Lyon Center, Los Angeles, on Friday. For the 25-year-old Suico, one of the most expected Filipino prospects, it was a bitter setback as he wished to follow the footstep of Manny Pacquiao in the US. Jauregui, 32, was cagey enough to show his ring experience and avoid mixing up with the taller hard-puncher by utilizing his footwork to almost nullify Suicofs attacks and responded with a fewer but more accurate left-right combinations. Suico showed his best in the tenth and final session, when he had the fading foe at bay with a flurry of punches, pinning him to the ropes all the way. But it was too late for Suico to overcome his early deficits on points.

Undercard:

Ben Tackie (27-5, 16 KOs) earned a majority decision over Norberto Bravo (20-11-2, 12 KOs) over ten.

Promoter: Golden Boy Promotions.
