TWINBILL IN JAPAN TOMORROW

TOKYO, JAPAN-Akihiko Hondafs world twinbill will take place tomorrow (Sunday) at the Yokohama Arena, Yokohama, Japan. The weigh-in ceremony was held at the Korakuen Hallfs Exhibition Room, where all the contestants passed it at their first trips to the scale. WBC bantam champ Hozumi Hasegawa (28-2, 5 KOs), Japan, tipped the beam at 53.1 kg (117 pounds) to 53.2kg (117.25 pounds) for Gerardo Martinez (27-5-3, 20 KOs), Mexico. WBA 105-pound titlist Yutaka Niida (18-1-3, 8 KOs), Japan, scaled in at 47.3 kg (104.25 pounds), while unbeaten Filipino Eriberto Gejon (21-0-1, 13 KOs) 47.4 kg (104.5 pounds).

The WBC officials are as follows: referee Laurence Cole (US); Duane Ford (US), Hubert Minn (US) and Bruce McTavish (Philippines); and supervisor Edward Thangarajah (Thailand).

The WBA officials are as follows: referee Luis Pabon (Puerto Rico); Medardo Villalobos (Panama), Pinit Prayadsab (Thailand) and Wansoo Yuh (Korea); and supervisor Renzo Bagnariol (Nicaragua).

On the Undercard, unbeaten WBA#5/WBC#5 ranked 122-pounder Jorge Linares will face Filipino Ayon Naranjo over six. Another unbeaten Venezuelan Edwin Valero will take on Hero Bando over six. Unbeaten ex-naitonal high school champ Takahiro Ao will cope with also undefeated Korean Jaechun Moon over six. This show is presented by Hondafs Teiken Promotions.
