HISATAKA STOPS WBA#6 BATAWANG

December 3, 2005

OSAKA, JAPAN-Unheralded Takahiro Hisataka (11-3-1, 3 KOs), 112, decked an important victory as he landed a picture-perfect right to drop WBA #6 ranked 108-pounder Bert Batawang (36-12-3, 30 KOs), 111.5, Philippines, and followed it up furiously to stop him at 0:44 into the second round in a scheduled ten on Saturday in Osaka, Japan. Hisataka, a local prospect whose latest improvement on power-punching was highly evaluated, stunned the prefight favorite Batawang early in the fatal session, though the Filipino was in command in the opening session. Batawang regained his feet, but Hisataka desperately attacked him with a barrage of punches to prompt the refereefs intervention.

In the main event, former WBC 105-pound champ Katsunari Takayama (16-2, 7 KOs), 105, appeared for the first time since being dethroned by Eagle Kyowa, and displayed his superior workrate and stamina to be awarded a unanimous technical decision (79-74 twice and 78-75) over Filipino youngster Rollen del Castillo (10-3, 5 KOs), 104, at 0:21 of the eighth round in a scheduled ten. Castillo went all-out with a roundhouse opening attack to take the first two sessions, but Takayama proved faster and more accurate from the third onward, controlling the affair despite the Filipinofs retaliation. Takayama sustained a gash in round seven, and it became so worsened that the ref had the cut examined by the doctor twice and called a halt to take a technical decision. Takayama is scheduled to have a shot at world-rated national champ Satoshi Kogumazaka in March.

OPBF #4 ranked Philippine welter champ Dondon Sultan (12-6-2, 6 KOs), 150, was apparently behind on points, but connected with a vicious right uppercut following a solid right to score a come-from-behind KO win over Japanese #8 welter Taisei Marumoto (18-6-1, 7 KOs), 150, at 1:28 of the ninth canto. Though ahead on points, Marumoto had been bleeding from the nostrils and the mouth due to Sultanfs occasional big shots prior to the trick happening.

Promoter: Green Tsuda Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.
