KAYOH WINS OPBF 108LB BELT FROM WBC#4/WBA#6 MASUDA

December 12, 2005

TOKYO, JAPAN-Japanese southpaw Munetsugu Kayoh (13-1, 7 KOs), 108, captured the OPBF 108-pound belt from defending champ, WBC#4/WBA#6 ranked compatriot Takahisa Masuda (16-7-3, 4 KOs), 107.5, as he displayed busier combinations to win a unanimous decision (118-113, 117-112 and 118-112) over twelve heats on Monday in Tokyo, Japan. Kayoh, a shorter lefty speedster from Okinawa handled by ex-WBA junior fly champ Yoko Gushiken, showed his determination by positively attacking to take the leadoff in the first half. The second half saw Kayoh become busier and more accurate with southpaw lefts, while the much taller champ threw just a big punch at a time and absorbed the challengerfs light but fast combos. Masuda failed in his first defense since he dethroned world-rated Shingo Yamaguchi by an upset verdict this August.

Promoter: Misako Promotions.
