WBC#9 SHIMADA, WBA#4 SAKATA WIN

December 20, 2005

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC#9 ranked ex-Japanese lightweight champ Takehiro Shimada (18-3-1, 11 KOs), 137.75, proved too pugnacious and powerful for ex-Indonesian 130-pound ruler Smile Brown (17-7-4, 7 KOs), 136.75, to score a TKO win at 2:38 of the sixth round on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Shimada, a 34-year-old veteran, was a little frustrated by Brownfs switch-hitting style, but kept pummeling him with busy combinations punctuated by solid body shots. As Brown was bleeding profusely and it became so lopsided, the referee declared a well-timed halt.

Undercard:

Fast-rising Japanese top ranked welter, unbeaten Yuji Yamaguchi (14-0-1, 10 KOs), 146.5, battered Indonesian #11 welter Marco Tuhumury (9-5-1, 3 KOs), 9-4-1, 3 KOs, to the face and the belly en route to the Indonesianfs retirement on the stool at the end of the fifth round in a scheduled ten. Yuki Kobayashi (13-2-1, 9 KOs), 119.75, displayed his tremendous stamina in his non-stop attack and scored an impressive KO win over game but fading Shinichiro Yamaguchi (13-5-2, 9 KOs), at 0:39 of the tenth and final session.
