#4 KAMEDA SINKS #13 BOUCHAN, BUT CONTROVERSIAL

March 8, 2006

TOKYO, JAPAN-Fast-rising Japanese southpaw sensation, WBA#4/WBC#8 flyweight Koki Kameda (10-0, 9 KOs), 112, sank WBC#13 Carlos Bouchan (16-6, 12 KOs), 112, with a series of vicious body shots for the count at 2:20 of the sixth round on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan. However, it produced such a controversy as the infamous Roberto Duran-Ken Buchanan affair, since Bouchan party strongly claimed that it was due to low blows. Bouchan started tossing light but fast combinations in the first round, but Kameda turned loose with solid punches to the face and the midsection from the third round on. It looked a competitive fight between the Japanese southpaw puncher and the Mexican fast footworker. Having taken the fifth by a clear margin, Kameda swarmed over the Mexican with strong body bombardments in the fatal sixth. Anyway, Kamedafs non-title bout gathered a good crowd at the Ryogoku Sumo Arena (usually used only for world title bouts; the capacity of which is approximately 10,000) in marked contrast to the Korakuen Hall (whose capacity is some 2,000) used for the Niida-Barrera WBA minimum title go last Saturday. Kamedafs tremendous popularity here may account for the difference.

Undercard:

OPBF#2 ranked Korean welter boss Dae Baira (22-4-1, 20 KOs), a Korea-based Mongolian, 146.75, proved too strong and durable for less experienced Kodai Kiyota (8-2, 8 KOs), 147.25, a hard-punching southpaw rookie, in demolishing him at 2:20 of the seventh round in a scheduled eight.

Promoter: Kyoei Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Kameda-Bouchan bout).
