NISHIZAWA HALTS KUMAR IN TWO

May 16, 2006

TOKYO, JAPAN-40-year-old warrior Yoshinori Nishizawa (27-17-5, 15 KOs), 175, a two-time world challenger and ex-OPBF super-middle champ, made a short work of Fijian Rakesh Kumar (reportedly 10-8-1, 3 KOs), 170.25, halting him at 2:06 of the second round on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. The Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) allowed Nishizawa to fight on under the condition that he keeps winning after passing a strict medical examination before every bout. Nishizawa looked heavier and slower than previously, but connected with good combinations to the fragile Fijian and had him staggering to the ropes. The ref counted a mandatory eight and had them go on, but promptly called a halt upon Nishizawafs follow-up.

Undercard:

Unbeaten Japanese #4 ranked 122-pounder Masaki Miya (16-0, 12 KOs), 123.5, easily disposed of Thailander Wayu Windygym (reportedly 10-8, 5 KOs), 123.5, at 1:03 of the third session. Miya had better face a name opponent to test his real power.

Promoter: Yonekura Promotions.
