OSAKA, JAPAN
WBC#14 ranked Masayuki Mitani (18-1, 9 KOs), 118, acquired the vacant Japanese bantam belt as he made good use of his left hand and pounded out a well-received majority decision (97-93 twice and 96-96) over WBC#13 Kenbun Torres (8-2, 6 KOs), 117.75, the son of ex-WBC light-fly champ German Torres, over ten speedy rounds on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. They used to be stablemates both coached by German Torres, but Mitani threw more effective punches to gain the national throne renounced by WBC#7/WBA#7 Nobuhito Ikehara.
