SHORYU STOPS OPBF#3 WIRASAK

September 23, 2006

SHIMIZU, JAPAN

Reiji Shoryu (16-8-2, 7 KOs), 106, previously fighting as Daisuke Iida, returned to ring warfare after an eleven-month hiatus and displayed beautiful hit-and-run tactics, opened a gash of OPBF#3 ranked Thai national 105-pound champ Wirasak Chuwatana (12-12, 6 KOs), 105, over the left eyebrow and finally halted him at 1:29 of the eighth round in a scheduled ten rounder on Saturday in Shimizu, Japan.

Shoryu, which means a rising dragon in Japanese, once dropped future WBA minimum champ Yutaka Niida twice and fought to a controversial draw in a quest for Niidafs national belt some five years ago. He outjabbed, outsped and outlegged Wirasak so completely that he piled up points in every round prior to the stoppage. It was his first appearance under the new nom-de-grace expecting good fortune.

Thai #3 ranked 140-pounder Jakkrawallek Sakthewan (6-4, 3 KOs), 146.5, came off the deck in the second and scored a come-from-behind TKO win over Japanese #6 local favorite Tsukasa Kashiwagi (13-11-2, 10 KOs), 149.25, at 2:07 of the sixth session in a scheduled ten. The Thailanderfs one-two combo had him badly rubbery-legged, so referee Fukuchi declared a halt by grabbing the upset loser.

OPBF#8 Yuya Miyagi (14-2-2, 4 KOs), 123.5, floored Thai #6 bantam Choyot Au Pramot (4-10, 2 KOs), 123.75, in the fourth and caught him with a barrage of punches to sink him for the count at 3:03 of the sixth in the first tenner.

Promoter: Mitsuyama Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.
