KAWASE DEFEATS THAI CHAMP MUANGFAHLEK

October 8, 2006

NAGOYA, JAPAN

We have some 300 promotions in a year in Japan, so we sometimes see four cards (or more) on the same day. A couple of promoters staged separate programs at the same arena in the daytime and at night each in Nagoya and Osaka.

OPBF#10 ranked prospect Shoji Kawase (15-2-4, 9 KOs), 134.5, overwhelmed Thai national 130-pound champ Muangfahlek Kiatwichien (15-8, 9 KOs), 134.25, with busier combinations and survived a visit to the deck with his opponentfs right counter in the eighth to win a unanimous verdict (97-93, 97-92 and 98-93) over ten on Sunday afternoon in Nagoya, Japan.

Unbeaten Japanese #9 light-fly Yuki Sano (7-0-1, 4 KOs), 107.25, scored a quick stoppage of Petchsunthong Sithsaithong (6-4, 1 KO), 108, at 2:25 of the second round in a supporting ten.

Promoter: Matsuda Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.

SAEGUSA STOPS OHASHI

NAGOYA, JAPAN

Japanese #4 super-fly Kenji Saegusa (16-3-1, 9 KOs), 117.75, proved too fast and sharp for Hiromasa Ohashi (12-7-3, 6 KOs), 117.5, as Saegusa had his opponentfs right eye badly swollen and finally stopped him with a barrage of punches at 0:35 of the sixth session on Sunday night in Nagoya, Japan.

Promoter: Heiwa Promotions.

YASUDA DEFEATS THONGTHAI

OSAKA, JAPAN

WBC#19 ranked bantam Mikio Yasuda (10-3-2, 8 KOs), 122, battered Thailander Thongthai Rajanondh (6-3-2, no KO), 121, with solid rights followed by left hooks to pound out a unanimous decision (79-74 and 78-75 twice) over eight on Sunday afternoon in Osaka, Japan. Yasuda had entered the WBC ratings thanks to his upset triumph over much more experienced Mexican Jaime Ortiz beneath the upset stoppage of Nobuo Nashiro over Martin Castillo last July. The hard-hitting left hooker Yasuda, the WBA superfly champ Nashirofs stablemate, is gunning for a shot at the national belt against Masayuki Mitani.

Japanese #2 minimum Kenichi Horikawa (12-5-1, 4 KOs), 106.75, dispatched Tatsuma Ohora (8-2-1, 2 KOs), 107, at 2:18 of the opening session in a scheduled ten.

Promoter: Eddie Townsend Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Yasuda-Thongthai bout).
