MASUDA KEEPS JAPANESE 108LB BELT

October 15, 2006

SHIMADA, JAPAN

WBA#7/WBC#10 Nobuaki Masuda (23-3-1, only 3 KOs), 108, barely kept his Japanese light-fly belt by earning a majority decision (97-93, 97-95 and 95-95) over Junji Ogami (11-5-1, 8 KOs), 108, over ten on Sunday in Shimada, Japan.

Masuda registered his fourth defense, but he lately kept his national belt by hairline decisions. The Ring Magazine recently categorized respective divisions by picking up best boxer, hardest puncher, etc. It listed up Masuda as the most skillful 108-pounder, but it might be a mistake since Masuda isnft so technical but depends on his strong willpower and stamina.

Promoter: Hiraishi Promotions.

UNBEATEN KONISHI 20-0, 17 KOs

October 15, 2006

GIFU, JAPAN

Unbeaten WBC#32 Akio Konishi (20-0, 17 KOs), 123, battered the nose of Indonesian 122-pound champ Juan Saparipan (reportedly 6-5, 4 KOs), 122.25, with solid uppercuts to have him profusely bleeding from the nostrils to prompt the refereefs stoppage at 0:22 of the fourth round on Sunday in Gifu, Japan.

Konishi, an aggressive hard-puncher ranked #3 by the Japanese commission, is ranked in the 115-pound division by the WBC due to his previous victory over then rated Filipino super-fly Joven Jorda. Now that Konishi is a full-fledged super-bantam, the WBC had better rank him in this division.

Undercard:

Japanese bantam #4 Takuro Kodama (14-5-3, 9 KOs), 117.5, floored Hirofumi Kato (6-5-2, 4 KOs), 117.5, with a straight right in the first, and accelerated his attack to stop him at 2:14 of the second round in a scheduled eight.

Japanese #8 fly Yusuke Morishima (19-8-4, 5 KOs), 117.75, was held to a majority draw (76-76, 75-75 and 77-75 against him) by Kunihiro Kinoshita (7-8-5, 1 KO), 117.25, over eight. Toshihiko Adachi (9-2, 3 KOs), 140, scored an impressive unanimous decision (80-73 twice and 79-74) over Indonesian #5 super-light Monthe Carlos (9-4-2, 2 KOs), 139, over eight.

Promoter: Gifu Yokozeki Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Konishi-Saparipan and Adachi-Carlos bouts).
