SATO STOPS EX-OPBF CHAMP HOZUMI

December 10, 2006

TOKYO, JAPAN

The B-Tight tournament featuring rated contenders only in the light, welter and middle divisions came to an end to see the three finals on Saturday at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Unbeaten ex-amateur champ Koji Sato (8-0, 7 KOs), 160, decked ex-OPBF and national ruler Naotaka Hozumi (28-6-2, 23 KOs), 160, in the second, battered him to the punch and stopped him at 1:17 of the third round. Hozumi, who previously had an unsuccessful bid for the WBA middle belt against William Joppy, was no match for Satofs speed and combinations only to succumb to the fast-rising prospect.

Japanese #10 welter Koji Numata (10-2-1, 6 KOs), 147, finished Ryusuke Yoda (12-2, 7 KOs), 146.75, with a single left hook at 3:02 of the third. Unbeaten Japanese #4 Yosukezan Onodera (16-0, 6 KOs), 134.5, came off the canvas in the first, and fought back hard to halt Kenji Ogiso (7-5-1, 6 KOs), 134.5, at 2:49 of the fourth.

Undercard:

Unbeaten ex-national amateur champ Takashi Uchiyama (5-0, 4 KOs), 131, dispatched OPBF#10 ranked Indonesian 130-pound champ Moses Seran, 131, at 1:45 of the third. Uchiyama is gunning for a shot at the OPBF throne in the future. Hard-hitting Ryuji Migaki (7-1, 7 KOs), 135, scored seven consecutive KO wins by stopping durable Ryohei Hagimori (12-5-1, 5 KOs), 134.5, at 1:44 of the sixth and final round. Migaki, with hard-punching ability, looked promising.

Promoter: Watanabe Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Uchiyama-Seran bout).
