KAMEDA RENOUNCES WBA 108LB BELT

January 20, 2007

TOKYO, JAPAN

WBA light-flyweight champ, unbeaten 20-year-old sensation Koki Kameda publicly announced his relinquishment of his world throne to move up to the flyweight category in Tokyo, Japan. Kameda acquired the WBA belt via disputed decision over Venezuelan Juan Jose Landaeta last August, and faced him again to cease the furious criticism on the verdict, showing his superiority by a very unanimous decision over Landaeta this December. Kameda had been originally a 112-pounder, so has returned to his usual division. The Japanese southpaw will participate in a tune-up bout prior to his near-future shot at either of the WBA or WBC flyweight belts in Tokyo on March 24.
