EGUCHI SQUEAKS BY UJIIE

March 25, 2007

HIMEJI, JAPAN

OPBF#2 ranked lefty Keiji Eguchi (14-1, 10 KOs), 159.25, very barely kept his Japanese middleweight belt as he hit the deck twice but scored a come-from-behind KO win over top contender Fukutaro Ujiie (10-5-1, 5 KOs), 160, at 2:24 of the third round on Sunday in Himeji, Japan. Eguchi, making his first defense since dethroning Toshihiko Itagaki, was floored with Ujiiefs vicious left hook in the second, and fell again with the challengerfs straight right in the next round. It looked a matter of time that Ujiie would take the belt to Tokyo, but the champfs southpaw left hook amazingly exploded with Ujiie badly hitting the canvas. He wobblingly stood up only to be unable to beat the refereefs fatal count.

Promoter: Himeji Kinoshita Promotions.
