Unbeaten Japanese 140-pound prospect Daisuke Sakamoto (2-0-1, 2 KOs), formerly an excellent amateur boxer who lately entered the paid ranks, was arrested today (Monday) by the Metropolitan Police for having beaten up an unidentified person, the police report of whom was also sent to the prosecutor, on December 21. Sakamoto, 26, was then involved in a quarrel with the heavily drunken man, 41, at the Ueno station, as they bumped and the victim harshly and brutally grabbed the young boxer by the collar at first. As a necklace gifted by his girlfriend was torn off, Sakamoto became mad and battered him to the punch at the face and midsection. The ruffian had the skull bone cracked by Sakamotofs counterpunches, and fell flat with the boxer hurriedly running away. The Police had been searching for the fugitive criminal, who turned out to be Sakamoto due to a testimony of some eyewitness in 17 days thereafter. It is a pity that the very promising boxer thus wasted his career with this deplorable violence, though booked against Norihito Nakamura here in Tokyo on January 28.
