SENDAI, JAPAN
OPBF #14 super-feather Kiyohisa Morita (12-4-1, 5 KOs), 129.25, barely decked his first bout in 2008, as he was awarded a hairline split verdict (77-75, 79-75 and 75-78) over Thai #3 ranked 130-pounder Peesajdang Kiettisaktanee (17-6, 4 KOs), 129.5, over eight on Sunday in Sendai, Japan.
Morita, who had entered the OPBFfs top fifteen thanks to his upset win over then Korean champ Woosung Woo last year, utilized his southpaw stance to frustrate the Thailander, who kept counterpunching the onrushing Japanese. Morita, well-known by his great durability, kept boring in with southpaw lefts followed by right hooks to eke out a decision.
Hirohito Meguro (8-2-1, 4 KOs), 121.5, scored a nearly shutout decision (60-56 twice and 59-57) over Thai #8 super-bantam Cheng Phetchjinda (11-8, 5 KOs), 121.5, over six. The southpaw Meguro piled up points as he battered the wild-swinging Thailander with persistent combinations upstairs and downstairs with better precision.
