SETOH SINKS IN FIVE

February 18, 2008

TOKYO, JAPAN

WBC#22/OPBF#7/JBC#2 Mikihito Setoh (26-6-1, 13 KOs), 123.25, scored sixteen victories straight as he withstood opening rallies of Thailander Daochai Sithsoei (8-5-1, 2 KOs), 123.5, wore him down with persistent combinations and finally sank him for the count at 1:04 of the fifth round in a scheduled ten on Monday in Tokyo, Japan.

The fast-rising Japanese swarmed over him from the second round on, as Daochai, a late substitute for ex-national champ Shoji Kimura due to his rib-cage injury, began to show his fatigue in no later than the second session despite his fine start. Setoh, who had once upset currently WBC#4 Akifumi Shimoda on points in 2006, recklessly battered the fading Thailander and decked him on the canvas with a triple right hook in the closing seconds of the fourth. Setohfs furious follow-up combo, in the fifth, dropped his victim on the knees to have the third man toll a fatal ten.

Undercard:

Game and aggressive Ryota Kajiki (11-3, 7 KOs), 129.75, maintained the pressure though occasionally absorbing big shots of Morito Yoshikawa (8-5-2, 3 KOs), 129.5, and earned a majority decision (79-74, 79-73 and 77-77) over eight.

Promoter: Kyoei Promotions.
