TOKYO, JAPAN
Unbeaten WBA#1/WBC#3 ranked flyweight, ex-WBA light-fly champ Koki Kameda (16-0, 11 KOs), Japanfs most notorious boxer, has announced today (Wednesday) that he will face WBO#2/IBF#8/WBA#13 Rexon Flores (18-3-4, 9 KOs), a wild-swinging Filipino puncher, in his combacking bout in Chiba, Japan, on March 22. Kameda, still 21, was supposed to meet ex-WBO flyweight champ Jose Lopez Bueno, Spain, who became unavailable because of a medical problem.
Kameda has been inactive since his previous appearance last July, when he scored a lopsided decision over Cesar Lopez in Tokyo. The flamboyant southpaw was training with WBC super-fly ruler Cristian Mijares in Mexico, returned to Japan and flew back to Las Vegas just to watch Mijares outscore Jose Navarro on February 16. Kamedafs name was such that even Jorge Arce, ex-WBC 108-pound and 112-pound champ, directly said to him at the MGM Grand, gLetfs fight. How much will you pay to me?h
Rexon Flores, 25, once had a crack at the WBO 112-pound throne against Omar Narvaez only to lose a unanimous decision in Argentina in August 2006. The Filipino acquired the WBO intercontinental belt by defeating Thailander Wisan Sor Suchanya on points in December 2006, and kept it once by decisioning Terdkiat Jandaeng last August. The Filipino is such a game and durable boy that he lost just once to Narvaez in last five years.
Kameda, one of the best-known boxers here, is gunning for a shot at either of the WBC and WBA belts against compatriots Daisuke Naito or Takefumi Sakata respectively. Naito will defend his belt against Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in Tokyo on March 8, while Sakata will face compatriot and ex-OPBF ruler Shingo Yamaguchi in Chiba on March 29. The eloquent Kameda will keep quiet for a while and concentrate on his own tune-up go.
