KAMIISHI UPSETS KO ARTIST AKIBEI

April 21, 2008

TOKYO, JAPAN

Unheralded welter underdog Tsuyoshi Kamiishi (just 9-6-3, 7 KOs), 146.5, unexpectedly scored a shockingly quick demolition of formerly world-rated southpaw KO artist Ushiwakamaru Akibei (16-2, 15 KOs), 146.75, at 2:41 of the first round in a scheduled ten on Monday in Tokyo, Japan.

Akibei had registered fifteen consecutive KO wins prior to his failure to win the national welter belt via first-round stoppage by elongated southpaw champ Tadashi Yuba last December. In his comebacking fight of southpaws, Akibei was highly expected to show his vaunted power punching again, but he took a vicious left of Kamiishi and became badly rubbery-legged to absorb much punishment by Kamiishifs desperate attack. As the ref Uratani declared a well-received halt, Akibei fell down to accept his upset annihilation. After 15 KO wins straight, he thus suffered a couple of first-round KO defeats in a row.

Undercard:

WBA#4 bantam, unbeaten Sasha Bakhtin (19-0, 8 KOs), 117.75, displayed fine sharpshooting and finally floored formerly two-time world challenger Hidenobu Honda (29-6, 14 KOs), 118, on the seat of trunks with a countering right with a towel tossing in from the loserfs corner at 1:13 of the seventh session in a supporting ten. It is registered as a KO win for the lanky Russian Sasha, a Japan-based Russian, as the JBC rules that a thrown towel for surrender during the third manfs counting results in a knockout.

Promoter: Kyoei Promotions.
