CEBU, PHILIPPINES
WBC#7/WBA#8 OPBF lightweight champ Randy Suico (28-3, 24 KOs), a hard-punching Filipino, appeared after a seven-month hiatus and showed his strength in scoring a one-punch KO of Thailander Sornkom Jockey-gym at 2:10 of the third round in a non-title ten on Monday in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines.
Suico, who previously failed to win the WBA 135-pound belt from Juan Diaz in Las Vegas in 2006, maintained the pressure on the game and durable Thailander from the start. The 5f8h Filipino was in command in the second, and finally caught Sornkom with a smashing right to the button. The loser was completely stretched for some minutes, but could raise himself without being carried out on a stretcher.
Surprisingly, Richard Olisa captured the Philippine national super-fly belt by a split verdict over defending champ Eden Sonsona in 12 hairline rounds.
When WBC 130-pound champ Manny Pacquiao appeared midway in the promotion, the crowd roared to welcome the national hero. Pacman was in attendance until the main event was over. The humble world champ was tremendously popular among fight fans in a festival show celebrating the Battle of Mactan.
Promoter: Manny Pacquiaofs MP Promotions in association with Wakee Salud Promotions.
