ISHIDA MEETS AVENDANO IN JAPAN

June 24, 2008

TOKYO, JAPAN

Japanese impresario Hideo Kanazawa of Kanazawa Promotions has announced that WBA#8 Japanese national 154-pound champ Nobuhiro Ishida (19-5-2, 7 KOs) will meet WBA#7 Marco Avendano (26-5-1, 18 KOs), Venezuela, in the WBA eliminator to decide the official challenger in Osaka, Japan, on September 22.

The current WBA super-welter champ is Joachim Alcine, Canada, who is slated to make his mandatory defense against the official challenger as well as ex-WBO 147-pound and 154-pound ruler, Daniel Santos in Montreal, Canada, on July 11. Should Ishida be victorious against Avendano, will he be certainly entitled to have an obligatory shot at the July 11 winner? Is it true that the WBA has sanctioned an encounter of such low ranked world contenders, #7 Avendano and #8 Ishida, as the final eliminator? The Venezuelan Avendano was already dispatched by future WBA champ Alcine in eight rounds with the NABA belt on the line in Montreal in 2005.
