OSAKA, JAPAN
Ex-OPBF welter champ Taisei Marumoto (24-9-1, 12 KOs), 154, chalked up a fine TKO victory over Thailander Denyan Sithsaithong (8-5, 3 KOs), 153, at 2:41 of the eighth round on Sunday in Osaka, Japan. Marumoto once captured the OPBF 147-pound belt by an upset stoppage of Hiroshi Yamaguchi in 2006, but yielded it to former ruler Rev Santillan via sixth round TKO the next year. The ex-champ, 33, is campaigning in the super welter category.
In a supporting ten, formerly two-time world challenger Hidenobu Honda (31-6, 14 KOs), 116.75, was awarded a unanimous technical decision (88-85 twice and 87-86) over Thai national super-fly champ Norasingh Kiatprasanchai (17-12-1, 14 KOs), 117, at 2:27 of the ninth round. The southpaw veteran, 33, is scheduled to have an ambitious shot at world-rated Japanese champ Daigo Nakahiro in Hiroshima on August 29. A head-collision opened a nasty laceration on the forehead of Honda, who was declared unfit to go on at the second medical exam in the fatal ninth.
