TOKYO, JAPAN
Having been dethroned by Thailander Denkaosen Kaowichit last December, ex-WBA flyweight champ Takefumi Sakata (35-5-2, 16 KOs), 114.25, decked his second comebacking bout and impressively demolished ex-Indonesian national champ Dicky Putra (5-4, 2 KOs), 113.25, a taller southpaw, with persistent body bombardments at 1:47 of the second round on Monday in Tokyo, Japan.
It was also Sakatafs second after moving up to the 115-pound category, and he looked sharp and speedy in his short work. Putra displayed solid southpaw lefts to the onrushing ex-champ in the opening session, but Sakatafs combinations to the belly sank him for the count in the neutral corner. Putra, eight years his junior at 21, was unable to beat the count because of his pain in agony.
Busy-punching Rie Fujimoto (4-1, 2 KOs), 114.25, acquired the vacant OPBF female super-fly belt as she kept punching New Zealander Michelle Preston (3-3, no KO), 113.75, all night and pounded out a unanimous decision (99-92 twice and 98-93) over ten two-min. rounds. Preston showed her heart, but Fujimotofs superior volume of punches nearly overwhelmed the game visitor.
Promoter: Kyoei Promotions.
Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Sakata-Putra bout).
