JBC#6 Hero Bando (20-10-7, 9 KOs), 130, a former Edwin Valero victim in the Venezuelan dynamite’s first appearance here in Japan in 2005, barely fought to a split draw (78-76, 76-77 and 77-77) with slick-punching counterpuncher Daiki Kaneko (10-2-1, 4 KOs), 129.25, over sizzling eight rounds on Monday in Tokyo, Japan. Kaneko was in command, outjabbing and outpunching the game but slow starter with flat foot in the first three rounds. Bando woke up in round four, when he bloodied the footworker’s nose and started furiously stalking him with roundhouse and less accurate combinations. Kaneko kept retreating and countering the willing mixer, but his negative style didn’t impress the judges to waste his early lead on points.
JBC#2 light-fly Masayoshi Segawa (18-2, 7 KOs), 110.25, positively threw versatile combinations to elusive Thailander Ratanadet Por Thitima (11-6-2, 5 KOs), 114.25, with less precision in the first three, but finally caught him with a flurry of punches to deck him for the count at 2:33 of the fourth session in a supporting eight. Segawa, a busy-punching southpaw, scored six wins straight with four within the distance since dropping a majority nod to Kenichi Horikawa in 2007.
