TOKYO, JAPAN
Unbeaten prospect, top contender Yoshihiro Kamegai (15-0, 13 KOs), 140, impressively captured the Japanese super-light belt as he floored WBC#13/WBA#15 defending titlist Yosukezan Onodera (21-2-1, 8 KOs), 140, in the first and second, and finally decked the fading champ with a vicious left-right combination to prompt the refereefs halt at 2:05 of the ninth session on Monday in Tokyo, Japan. Kamegai, formerly three-time national amateur champ, toyed with the champ with speed and skills, sweeping all rounds prior to the dramatic stoppage. Kamegaifs future looks bright.
In a companion national title go, WBC#14 Japanese 122-pound champ Masaaki Serie (16-3, 6 KOs), 121.5, barely kept his belt by eking out a split decision (96-93, 97-92 and 95-96) over top-ranked Kyohei Tamakoshi (25-6-6, 10 KOs), 122, over ten.
