OSAKA, JAPAN
Mexican switch-hitter Hugo Cazares (31-6-2, 22 KOs), 115, captured the WBA super-fly belt as he kept throwing more combinations to the less aggressive defending champ Nobuo Nashiro (13-2-1, 8 KOs), 115, to win a unanimous decision over twelve heats on Saturday in Osaka, Japan.
The official tallies were as follows: Raul Caiz Sr. and Glenn Feldman (both US) both 117-111, and Stanley Christodoulou (South Africa) 115-113, all for the 32-year-old Mexican veteran who thus gained his second world belt to his credit. The referee was Russell Mora (US), who described this fight as the hardest toe-to-toe combat he had ever officiated. In eight days Mexicans, Fernando Montiel and Cazares, impressively dethroned our world titlists to show their strength.
