TOKYO, JAPAN
Formerly world-rated ex-Japanese lightweight champ Akihiro Kondo (14-2, 6 KOs), 135, decked his triumphant return after losing his national belt to Nihito Arakawa via hairline verdict (96-94 twice and 95-95) last April, as he pounded out a nearly shutout decision (80-73, 79-73 and 79-74) over durable and game Shinya Yoroizuka (11-6-1, 5 KOs), 134.75, over eight heats in Tokyo, Japan tonight (Saturday). Kondo, a talented hard-hitting footworker, often connected with solid jabs and one-two combinations to the peek-a-boo stylist and was expected to finish the affair soon so that our spectators would be able to drink beer near the Hall early. But it was Yoroizuka that displayed his tremendous gameness in responding to Kondofs lopsided attack with his desperate retaliation to acquire a point in round six. Kondo, however, turned hot and furious enough to almost floor the fading opponent in the last two rounds. Kondo himself said, gIfd like to avenge my defeat to Arakawa soon.h But his another target may be the current OPBF 135-pound ruler Ryuji Migaki, then national kingpin whom Kondo had dethroned with an upset first-round stoppage a year ago. Encounters of Kondo, Migaki, Arakawa and world-rated veteran Takehiro Shimada will be highly expected by our aficionados.
