TOKYO, JAPAN
A Mexican flu seems as ferocious and furious as a Mexican body puncher. WBA interim 130-pound champ Jorge Solis, Mexico, was so badly infested that he was eventually obliged to cancel his schedule to meet the full WBA ruler Takashi Uchiyama (16-0, 13 KOs) in a unification bout in Tokyo, Japan, on January 10. Uchiyamafs title defense was then re-scheduled against a compatriot substitute named Takashi Miura (20-1-2, 16 KOs), a hard-punching southpaw national champ, on January 31. Therefore, another title bout of WBA super-bantam kingpin Retsuri Lee (AKA Ryol-Li Lee) and ex-OPBF titlist Akifumi Shimoda beneath Uchiyamafs defense was also moved to the last day of this month to make it a doubleheader, as scheduled.
