HOSONO WINS JAPANESE 126LB BELT

February 3, 2011

Tokyo, JAPAN

WBA#13 feather Satoshi Hosono (19-1, 13 KOs) recaptured the Japanese national 126-pound throne as he pounded out a unanimous decision (97-93 and 98-92 twice) over elongated boxer Kazumasa Kihara (12-2-1, 4 KOs) over ten hard-fought rounds on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan.

Hosono, nicknamed gBazookah due to his power-punching, failed to win the WBA 122-pound belt, losing a close majority nod (115-113, 117-113 and 114-114) to Poonsawat Kratingdaeng-gym here in January of the previous year, but scored a couple of wins before tonight fighting for the vacant belt relinquished by Ryol-Li Lee (who wrested the WBA belt by dethroning Poonsawat, though lately forfeiting it to Akifumi Shimoda this Monday). Kihara utilized his longer reach and advantageous height, scoring points at the early stage of the bout. But Bazookafs right exploded in the fourth, and he began to control the close affair from then on. Kihara, apparently overpowered by the shorter Hosono, often grabbed him to keep him from coming close to him, and was penalized a point for holding in round nine.

Promoter: Ohashi Promotions.
