WBC#11/WBA#15 ex-Olympian Toshiyuki Igarashi (13-1-1, 10 KOs), 112, impressively acquired the vacant Japanese national flyweight belt when he made a good start, caught Takayasu Kobayashi (16-4-3, only 2 KOs), 112, with his southpaw left and accelerated his two-fisted attack to prompt the refereefs intervention at 2:07 of the third round on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. The elimination bout took place on the same night as the WBA super-fly title go between Tomas Rojas and Nobuo Nashiro in Osaka, and the ex-Olympian and ex-interim champ Igarashi displayed a good form to seize the full championship this time. His manager/promoter Akihiko Honda says the he plans to have Igarashi have a crack at a world throne within this year. Igarashi is the seventh current champ out of Teiken Gym that now handles three world, two OPBF and two national champions.
Promoter: Teiken Promotions.
