TOKYO, JAPAN
Taller southpaw Makoto Fuchigami (15-6, 6 KOs)(right photo), 158.75, kept his Japanese middleweight belt as he battered top contender Fukutaro Ujiie (16-8-1, 11 KOs), 160, from all angles, decked him with a smashing left in the third and finally halted him at 1:52 of the eighth session in a scheduled ten rounder on Monday in Tokyo, Japan.
Fuchigami, making his first defense, utilized his speed and footwork, and piled up points so steadily that he was widely leading on points after the seventh: 70-63 twice and 70-62, as shown after the title go. The lefty champ had dethroned Tetsuya Suzuki via sixth-round TKO in Osaka last October, and thus displayed his good form against his grudge rival Ujiie over whom he had eked out a split verdict some two years ago. Accelerating his attack against the fading challenger, the ref Tsuchiya made a well-timed stoppage in the fatal eighth.
JBC#4 lightweight Mitsuya Omura (13-5-1, 9 KOs), 129.75, fought to a technical draw with Kazunari Fujisawa (9-6-3, 2 KOs), because of the formerfs bad gash at 2:08 of the fourth round in a scheduled eight.
Formerly two-time national amateur champ Yohei Tobe, 115.25, made an eye-catching professional debut by dispatching Korean national super-fly champ Jingi Jung (7-11-1, 1 KO), 115.75, at 1:10 of the opening session in a scheduled six. Even if Jung isnft an excellent national champ, Tobefs blitzkrieg was so furious that he dropped the Korean twice before the TKO triumph. Tobefs amateur mark had been 42-10, 20 stoppages.
