Ex-WBA flyweight champ Takefumi Sakata, who fought his last bout seven months ago, was elected councilor of Inagi city, Tokyo, Japan on Sunday. The 31-year-old Sakata participated in the municipal election campaign with warm supports of such former world titlists as Guts Ishimatsu, etc. Sakata proudly says, “I’d like to contribute to the activation of our city through sports.” Along with stepping into politics, Sakata also entered Senshu University and will start his school life from today (Tuesday).
