Southpaw ex-Olympian, WBC#4/WBA#4 flyweight Toshiyuki Igarashi (14-1-1, 10 KOs) (right), 112, kept his Japanese national 112-pound belt as he was awarded a majority technical decision (78-77 twice and 76-76) over ex-titlist Kenji Yoshida (17-10-1, 5 KOs), 111.75, at 1:14 into the eighth session of a scheduled ten-rounder on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan.
Yoshida kept boring in from the head, which caused plenty of head-collisions, producing a gash over the right optic of Igarashi in the second and then a very nasty laceration on the forehead of himself. Yoshida collapsed from a pain of the last head-butt, which finally terminated the foul-studded contest for the referee to take a technical decision.
Ranked #12 both by the WBC and the WBA, unbeaten 140-pound prospect Yoshihiro Kamegai (18-0, 16 KOs), 145.75, scored a one-punch knockout of Filipino Joel dela Cruz (15-11-2, 6 KOs), 142.25, at 2:05 of the second session in a supporting ten. The hard-hitting Japanese knocked him out of the ropes with a single left hook, but dela Cruz wasnft a Jack Dempsey that would come back into the ring to finish a Luis Angel Firpo. He was counted out then and there.
