TOKYO, JAPAN
Elongated southpaw Japanese, JBC#3/OPBF#14 super-light Yuji Wauke (14-3-1, 7 KOs), 140, engaged in a tune-up go prior to his national title crack and chalked up a quick TKO triumph over Thailander Petchsuriya Looksaikongdin (11-7, 4 KOs), 138.75, with a vicious body shot to the solar-plexus at 0:51 of the second round in a scheduled eight on Friday in Tokyo, Japan.
Having failed to win the national 140-pound belt via unanimous decision loss to then-reigning Yosukezan Onodera two years ago, Wauke is gunning for a shot again at the currently vacant belt. The Japanese lefty threw busy combinations followed by a solid shot to the midsection, which collapsed the Thailander in agony with the referee Kumazaki promptly declaring a halt.
Petchsuriya is the sixth of fifteen siblings (all of whom are active boxers) of Looksikongdin family out of Bangkok. His sister Petchsairoong, 21, recently came here to have an ambitious crack at the WBA female world super-fly belt only to lose to defending titlist Tsunami Tenkai by a third-round stoppage at the same Hall. Despite his quick defeat the 19-year-old Petschsuriya fought well, coping with the physically superior Wauke in the first session.
Filipino import Warlito Parrenas (AKA Wars Katsumata; 14-5, 12 KOs), 111.75, dropped JBC#12 flyweight prospect Atsushi Kakutani (9-2, 5 KOs), 111.75, three times?though hitting the deck once himself?en route to an automatic KO at 2:52 of the initial round in a scheduled eight. Kakutani, the winner of the Novice King four-round tourney of the previous year, revealed his vulnerability and failed to last the opening session.
Promoter: Watanabe Promotions.
