WBC super-bantam champ Toshiaki Nishioka (38-4-3, 24 KOs), a Japanese southpaw making his seventh defense, will risk his belt against two-time world champ Rafael Marquez (40-6, 36 KOs), a hard-hitting Mexican, in Las Vegas on October 1. It was publicly announced by a leading cable television named WOWOW which has regularly shown world title bouts from all over the world for last twenty years. The Nishioka-Marquez confrontation will be broadcast live to Japan from the MGM Grand and attract our aficionados. Nishioka is expected to be the first Japanese boxer that will keep his world throne in the US. If victorious, Nishioka, 35, will also break the record of the oldest Japanese world champ defending his belt, surpassing ex-WBC flyweight kingpin Daisuke Naitofs thirty-four years.
