TOKYO, JAPAN
WBC super-feather champ Takahiro Aoh (21-2-1, 10 KOs), a Japanese southpaw, will put his belt on the line against unbeaten Italian Devis Boschiero (29-0-1, 14 KOs) tomorrow (Sunday) in Tokyo, Japan. It will be Aohfs second defense since dethroning Vitali Tajbelt of Germany via unanimous nod last November. Aoh tipped the beam at the 130-pound class limit, while "Boom Boom" Boschiero 129.5, a half pound lighter than the champ.
The WBC bantam championship, lately vacated by Nonito Donaire, will be disputed by #1 Christian Esquivel (23-2, 17 KOs) , Mexico, and #2 Shinsuke Yamanaka (14-0-2, 10 KOs), Japan, over twelve rounds. Each scaled in at the 118-pound class limit. Since they are hard-punchers, there will be a good possibility that either will be victorious by a knockout or a stoppage without hearing the last gong of the final session. Yamanaka, a southpaw hard-hitter, has scored eight victories by knockout in a row and aims to extend his KO streak.
WBC#2 Wilbert Uicab (33-5-1, 18 KOs), Mexico, and #3 ex-Olympian Toshiyuki Igarashi (14-1-1, 10 KOs), Japan, will face in the WBC final eliminator to decide the official challenger against the legitimate champ Pongsaklek Wongjonkam.
WBC officials: Laurence Cole, Rocky Burke, Duane Ford (all US), Ian John Lewis (UK) and Anek Hongtongkam (Thailand).
WBC supervisor: Mauricio Sulaiman (Mexico).
This show is presented by Akihiko Hondafs Teiken Promotions at the Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium in the center of Tokyo.
