KOSEKI, TOGASHI KEEP FEMALE WBC BELTS

November 30, 2011

TOKYO, JAPAN

Unbeaten WBC female atomweight champ Momo Koseki (9-0-1, 3 KOs), 102, a fast-punching southpaw, kept her belt for the seventh time when she was awarded a nearly lopsided technical decision (99-91, 98-91 and 98-92) over compatriot Mami Ito (4-5-1, 2 KOs), 102, due to he champfs bad vertical laceration on the forehead caused by an accidental butt at 0:51 of the tenth and final session on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan.

Koseki displayed her technical improvement and finely floored the game challenger with a well-timed southpaw left midway in the ninth round. The champ showed good balance in throwing busy combinations without getting hit.

In the first title bout, another unbeaten WBC female light-fly ruler Naomi Togashi (9-0-1, 4 KOs), 108, successfully retained her belt by pounding out a nearly shutout decision (100-91 and 99-91 twice) over Korean Chorong Son (11-2, 3 KOs), 107.75, over ten. The 36-year-old maternity nurse Togashi, making her seventh defense, mixed it up toe-to-toe and overwhelmed ex-champ Son with her greater workrate. It wasnft an easy fight for Togashi despite the one-sided tallies, since Son was persistent and pugnacious throughout the contest.
