ROLLY KEEPS OPBF BANTAM BELT

December 11, 2011

KANAZAWA, JAPAN

OPBF bantam ruler, Japan-based Filipino puncher Rolly Lunas Matsushita (29-8-1, 17 KOs) (right), 117.75, impressively kept his regional belt as he badly floored ex-Japanese champ Kohei Ohba (29-2-1, 12 KOs) (left), 117.5, twice in the opening session, and twice more before halting the speedster at 0:15 of the eleventh round on Sunday in Kanazawa, Japan. Rolly once had an ambitious crack at the WBA 118-pound belt against Ansermo Moreno, losing a lopsided verdict in Panama in 2008. He acquired the second OPBF throne in the 122-pound category but forfeited it to Japanese banger Hiromasa Ohashi via seventh round KO route in June 2009. His hand injury forced him to be inactive for seventeen months since, but came back to win the vacant OPBF belt by defeating Filipino compatriot Jerope Zuiyama by a seventh round knockout this July. Rolly, making his initial defense, decked him in the tenth and dropped the fading loser again in the beginning of the fatal session. Referee Yuji Fukuchi promptly called a halt to save him from further punishment.

Promoter: Kashimi Promotions.
