TOKYO, JAPAN
Who planned a promotion on the very last day of the year? It will happen here in Japan in the form of a world title twinbill. We, on December 31, make it a rule to enjoy a party, drinking to sit up late until we welcome the new year coming. But we, boxing people, have to cover the unusual event by sacrificing year-end celebrations this year. WBA interim super-feather champ Jorge Solis (40-3-2-1NC, 29 KOs) arrived in Tokyo early on the morning of Christmas eve prior to a unification bout with full titlist Takashi Uchiyama (17-0, 14 KOs), Japan, in Yokohama city (some forty minutes by car from Tokyo). Solis accompanied his wife Faviola and a couple of children (Jorge Jr. and Alexa) along with his trainers Willy Arroyo, Victor Manuel Martinez, plus his brother Eder Solis.
Q: Is it the first time you celebrate Christmas outside of your country Mexico?
A: Yes, this is the very first. However, Ifm more motivated to win the belt because I dare to sacrifice Christmas holidays.
Q: Are you confident in winning the belt? How much do you know Uchiyama?
A: Of course, Ifm confident. I know Uchiyama is a dangerous hard-puncher, but Ifll be able to handle him to wrest the belt from him.
Q: Why are you nicknamed gColoraditoh?
A: I used to love wearing red pants, red wears, red gloves and red headgear. So, people called me gColoradito.h
(In Spanish, gcoloradoh means red-colored.)
Q: On the Christmas eve, you cannot eat sweet cake, nor drink before the world title bout. What do you think of it?
A: Thatfs my profession. Ifll endure anything until I win the belt.
Q: Please deliver some message to your counterpart Uchiyama.
A: Youfll be out of the championship. Ifll be the new legitimate champion.
Q: Shall we take pictures of you besides Christmas trees?
A: No problem. With my pleasure.
