Unbeaten Japanese heavyweight prospect, OPBF#7 Kyotaro Fujimoto (4-0, 3 KOs), 225, battered 6’5” New Zealander Clarence Tillman (11-10-2, 6 KOs), 268, from all angles and finally caught him with a solid right following quick combinations, dropping him for the count at 2:02 of the third session in a scheduled eight rounder on Wednesday in Osaka, Japan.
Kyotaro, eight years his junior at 26, was formerly a K-1 fighter, having scored some good victories prior to his entry into the international style fighting last year. The Japanese young man, handled by his manager Kenichi Hagimori, technically improved after training for three weeks in Perth, Australia, where he experienced good sparring sessions with big boys there at Harry’s Gym. Kyotaro swarmed over the slower Tillman from the outset, and averted his retaliation well with his faster footwork. The third saw Kyotaro pin him to the ropes with a fusillade of punches and deck him with a thud. The game New Zealander attempted to pull himself up, but failed to beat the count. We saw Kyotaro steadily improving in every fight.
WBC#3/WBA#2 ranked OPBF light-fly champ, unbeaten Ryo Miyazaki (17-0-3, 10 KOs), 107.75, kept his regional belt by winning a unanimous decision (118-110, 117-111 and 120-108) over ex-OPBF minimum ruler Michael Landero (15-7-4, 5 KOs), 107.25, over twelve. The shorter puncher controlled the action all the way despite the durable Landero’s occasional and abrupt retaliations with which the Filipino dominated only the fifth and tenth. Miyazaki, a 23-year-old stablemate of WBC/WBA unified 105-pound ruler Kazuto Miyazaki, is gunning for a shot at any 108-pound throne in the near future. Miyazaki is a rugged puncher, while Ioka is a stylish and sophisticated sharpshooter.
