Hard-punching southpaw footworker Shinya Iwabuchi (19-3, 15 KOs), 140, showed a lackluster performance and failed to realize a highly expected KO victory and kept his Japanese national 140-pound belt by earning a unanimous but less impressive decision (98-93 twice and 97-93) over JBC#7 contender Tsuyoshi Ozawa (13-4-1, 2 KOs), 140, over ten monotonous rounds in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday. Iwabuchi, a beetle-haired Bruce Lee stylist, captured the throne by finishing defending champ Yuji Wauke in his previous bout, but couldn’t display his vaunted power but in round six when he almost sink the game but durable challenger with persistent body bombardments. Iwabuchi, however, appeared to thereafter forget where the stomach or solar plexus was. The OPBF#2 Iwabuchi, 26, had better correct his bad habit of throwing a solid punch at a time and utilize his southpaw right lead more busily.
