SHINDO DEFEATS GONZALEZ

December 22, 2012

KOBE, JAPAN

WBC#6/WBA#6 OPBF female flyweight champ Go Shindo (11-2, 8 KOs), 113.5, kept swapping solid punches with much shorter but durable Mexican Gabriela Gonzalez (12-4-1, 4 KOs), 113.25, winning a unanimous decision (78-74 twice and 77-75) over eight competitive rounds on Saturday in Kobe, Japan. Shindofs non-title bout took place beneath ex-WBC ruler Hozumi Hasegawafs comeback go before a well-packed crowd. Shindo is gunning for a shot at the WBC belt against Renata Szebeledi of Hungary here this spring after dropping a debatable split decision to Mariana Juarez in a quest for the WBC 112-pound belt in California last July.

OPBF#13 feather Kota Fukuoka (12-3-2, 9 KOs), 129.25, barely earned a split verdict (77-76, 77-75 and 75-76) over OPBF#10 Joseph Von Minoza (14-5, 6 KOs), 136.5, in eight see-saw rounds.

OPBF#9 super-feather Akinori Kanai (24-7, 22 KOs), 132.5, impressively stopped Thailander Somdej Lookmaerampeoy (10-6, 4 KOs), 130.25, at 0:27 of the fifth round.

It was a good show that entertained many spectators at the Kobe Cultural Gymnasium.

Promoter: Shinsei Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the aforementioned three bouts)
