NAGOYA, JAPAN
Called gDream Boyh, unbeaten 18-year-old 105-pound prospect Kosei Tanaka (2-0), 106.75, impressively defeated WBA#12 ranked PABA interim titlist Ronelle Fererras (13-7-2, 5 KOs), 106.5, a southpaw Filipino, by a nearly shutout decision (79-72, 79-73, 79-74) over eight fast rounds on Sunday in Nagoya, Japan. Tanaka, who had just graduated from Chukyo high school weeks ago, compiled an excellent amateur mark of 46-5, 18 stoppages, having won four national belts before his participation in the paid ranks. Following his fine victory over then WBO#6 Oscar Reknafa last November, Tanaka displayed his vast talent in battering another world contender with his speed, skills and power. Moving side-to-side to avert Fererrasf solid southpaw lefts, Tanaka occasionally penetrated his foefs guard with smashing straight rights following stiff and sharp jabs. The youngster was very good at handling the hard-punching Filipino with his hand speed and footwork, piling up points steadily except in round six when Ferreras exclusively attacked Tanakafs breadbasket. But Tanaka swept the last two sessions with his remarkable aggressiveness. The ex-high school champ may be as talented as former WBA light-fly champ Kazuto Ioka and sensational prospect Naoya Inoue who will have an ambitious shot at the WBC 108-pound belt against Mexican Adrian Hernandez on this coming April 6. The gDream Boyh rally attracted the well-packed crowd with his eye-catching sharpness and aggression as well.
