TOKYO, JAPAN
OPBF top ranked super-feather contender, ex-Japanese national champ Daiki Kaneko (21-3-3, 14 KOs) will have an ambitious shot at the OPBF 130-pound titleholder Jomthong Chuwatana (8-0, 4 KOs), from Thailand, tonight (Saturday) in Tokyo, Japan. It is the first show staged at the Korakuen Hall this year, and our fight fans greatly expect a hot competition between the young, stylish and hard-punching rivals. Kaneko, 26, raised his stock despite his defeat at the hand of WBA champ Takashi Uchiyama in a quest for the belt as he floored the titlist in the tenth and showed a very good performance in December 2013. Kaneko, as the national ruler, had demolished four challengers in as many title defenses to display his strength prior to his relinquishment before the WBA title crack. WBC #12 Jomthong, 26, once produced a great sensation by annihilating Japanese prospect Yuya Sugizaki in three lopsided rounds to stun the huge crowd at the Hall here in Tokyo. He is called genius in Muaythai in Thailand since he reportedly captured the belt at the age of seventeen and has kept his Muaythai belt in some categories since then (even now he is the Muaythai titlist, while fighting in the international style game). Since Jomthong, a tall southpaw hard-hitter, acquired the OPBF belt by stopping Korean Donghyuk Kim in May 2012, he kept it three times, beating Ranel Suco, Ronald Pontillas and Koseki Nakama to his credit. Kaneko confidently says, gThis OPBF title shot is just a stepping stone for me to have a world title crack again.h Itfs such a competitive matchup that we cannot predict which the winner will be tonight.
