OPBF#3 LAURO DEMOLISHES HAYAKAWA

March 15, 2015

KARIYA, JAPAN

OPBF#3 minimumweight, free-swinging Filipino banger Roque Lauro (13-16-4, only 3 KOs), 110.25, very impressively knocked out a local prospect named Daisuke Hayakawa (8-4, 7 KOs), 110.25, with a vicious body shot at 1:16 of the third round on Sunday in Kariya, Japan. Despite his mediocre mark Lauro, a tiny Filipino, displayed his power-punching ability so that he flattened the local favorite with a single blow. It must be a Punch of the Month since Lauro landed a beautifully-timed lethal counterpunch to the liver, which was reminiscent of Eder Jofrefs wicked body bombardment to Katsutoshi Aoki in 1963, or Alexis Arguellofs eye-catching body shot to Royal Kobayashi in 1975. We have often seen strong counterpunches to the face, but it is rare to watch such a well-timed effective counter to the midsection. It might be a product of timing that such a picturesque knockout happened as the taller and more muscular Hayakawa threw a strong punch to the face but missed it, just when Laurofs body shot dug into the liver of the loser. The Japanese boy fell in agony to be prone for more than one hundred seconds. Itfs a pity that there was no telecast of this spectacular knockout, though this reporter was very eager to watch and review it again.
