YAMANAKA TO DEFEND WBC 118LB BELT AGAINST SANTILLAN

OSAKA, JAPAN

Unbeaten WBC bantamweight champ Shinsuke Yamanaka (22-0-2, 16 KOs) will put his belt on the line against also undefeated Argentine Diego Santillan (23-0, 15 KOs) today (Thursday) in Osaka, Japan. The hard-hitting southpaw, making his eighth defense, is favored to defeat the much shorter challenger due to his more substantial career and superior punching power. Yamanaka, 32, tipped the beam at 117.75 to 117.5 for Santillan, five years his junior, yesterday.

The officials are as follows:

referee Michael Griffin (Canada); judges Frank Garza (US), Predrag Aleksic (Montenegro), Noppharat Sricharoen (Thailand); supervisor Frank Quill (Australia).

On the undercard, former WBC bantam titlist Joichiro Tatsuyoshifs 18-year-old son Juiki will make a pro debut against Tadao Iwatani in a super-bantam four-rounder.
