WBC female mini-flyweight champ Yuko Kuroki (13-4-1, 6 KOs), 104.75, a Japanese southpaw, kept her belt for the second time when she outscored compatriot Masae Akitaya (9-6-2, 3 KOs), 105, by a unanimous decision (97-92 twice and 98-92) over ten hot rounds on Sunday in Toyonaka, Japan. Akitaya, in her fourth attempt to win the world belt, took the initiative with her aggressiveness in earlier rounds, but Kuroki found her rhythm and range to overcome her early deficits on points and had the leadoff down the stretch. The referee was Stephen Blea (US) who handled busy exchanges of the Japanese girls who temporarily forgot their usual friendship and swapped punches all the way.
