TOKYO, JAPAN
WBA#4/WBC#11/IBF#6/WBO#7 featherweight Satoshi gBazookah Hosono (28-2-1, 20 KOs), 126, successfully kept his Japanese national 126-pound belt as he effectively battered Tatsuya Otsubo (8-7-1, 3 KOs), 125.25, nearly all the way, winning a lopsided decision (99-91 twice and 99-92) over ten hard-fought rounds on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan. Having failed to win the world belt three times from Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (L12), Celestino Caballero (L12) and Chris John (TD3 due to the champfs bleeding after an accidental butt), Hosono, now 31, is still gunning for a fourth shot at the belt. Regarded as a mismatch, it wasnft so easy for Hosono since Otsubo took the initial round with his opening attack and then showed his heart despite losing round after round thereafter. Hosono had him at bay with vicious body bombardments in round seven, but couldnft bring home the bacon early.
Two-time world champ Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12 KOs), 112, proved too much for Indonesian #6 light-fly Said M. Said (10-6-1, 4 KOs), 112, with a single right haymaker at 1:10 of the third round in a semi-windup ten. Yaegashi cautiously probed the game Indonesian by sticking jabs and throwing solid left hooks in the first two sessions. The ex-champ impressively flattened Said with a well-timed right counter to have the third man toll the fatal ten.
Unbeaten WBC#11/WBA#12/IBF#8/WBO#9 Ryo Matsumoto (15-0, 13 KOs), 119, was awarded an important knockout victory over WBC#10 ranked NABF bantam ruler Luis May (17-9-1, 7 KOs), 119, at 1:24 of the fifth round in a scheduled eight. Undaunted, Matsumoto, 21, was an aggressor from the outset, stalking the Mexican and scoring with solid combinations upstairs and downstairs. Having swept all rounds, Matsumoto saw a bizarre end as May abruptly quit fighting by claiming a pain on the right wrist midway in the fatal fifth, when the referee Nakamura mercilessly counted him out.
