TOKYO, JAPAN
WBC#3 light-flyweight, Japanese speedster Yu Kimura (17-2-1, 3 KOs) will have an ambitious shot at the WBC 108-pound belt against Mexican champ Pedro Guevara (26-1-1, 17 KOs) in Sendai city, Japan, on November 28. It was announced by Teiken Promotions and WOWOW Television yesterday (Friday). Kimura, formerly national amateur titlist and Hosei University graduate, acquired the vacant Japanese light-fly belt by defeating Kenichi Horikawa (the current titleholder) on points in February of the previous year and kept it three times, having scored eight wins in a row. Guevara seized the vacant WBC throne by demolishing ex-champ Akira Yaegashi via seventh round knockout with a vicious body shot here in Tokyo last December, and retained it twice by beating Richard Claveras (TKO 1) and official challenger Ganigan Lopez (W12) to his credit. Kimura, five years his senior at 31, will try to outbox, outspeed and outmaneuver the younger Mexican champion.
