TOKYO, JAPAN
Pretty Argentine girl Daniela Bermudez (18-3-2, 6 KOs), 114, kept her WBO junior bantamweight belt as she finely displayed her superiority in skills, power and experience in lopsidedly battering elongated Japanese fashion model and OPBF titlist Tomomi Takano (8-2, 5 KOs), 115, into submission at 1:26 of the fourth round in a scheduled ten on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan. Bermudez took the initiative with her opening attack to the 5f10h lanky challenger, who had entered the paid ranks with serving as picturesque model. The shorter but sharper champ accelerated her attack as the contest progressed, and finally caught Takano and badly dropped her to the canvas with a flurry of solid combinations. As Takano looked unable to stand up and resume fighting, her corner wisely tossed in the towel for surrender. In Japan, a towel-tossing during the refereefs counting is ruled to be registered as knockout, not TKO, so itfs Bermudezfs KO victory here. Bermudez, who is nicknamed gLa Bonita,h looked simply too much for the highly anticipated but unfruitful sensation Takano. The ref was Danrex Tapdasan (Philippines).
In a companion title bout, WBO mini flyweight champ Kimko Seeser Ikehara (8-1-2, 3 KOs), 105, successfully kept her belt by earning a hard-fought unanimous nod (97-93 twice and 98-92) over compatriot Momoko Kanda (9-8-2, 3 KOs), 104.25, over ten heats. Ikehara proved more energetic and powerful for the game challenger Kanda, who showed good retaliations in later rounds. But her last surge wasnft enough to overcome her early deficits on points. The referee was Sawaeng Thaweekoon (Thailand).
Between the female title goes, world-rated feather Hisashi Amagasa (30-5-2, 19 KOs), 126, a Japanese Panama Al Brown who had dropped Guillermo Rigondeaux twice in his losing effort last December, appeared and finally halted game and durable Filipino Nathan Bolcio (12-10-2, 4 KOs), 125.5, at 2:37 of the seventh round in a scheduled ten. The slow starter Amagasa was lazy in earlier rounds, as usual, but warmed up his engine and dropped him twice en route to an expected stoppage. He had better use high-octane gasoline rather than regular gas.
